Quiet Rebels Are the Most Intense

Quiet Rebels Are The Most Intense

for the most quiet rebel

They choose their revolutions with great care.
Always moving with a steady deliberate pace,
their intentions hidden beneath their strength,
which is hidden,
beneath their will,
which is hidden,
beneath a facade of placid gentleness.
Always underestimated,
too often under-appreciated,
they gain their ground through tacit acquiescence,
barely felt compromise
and the smugly held belief that nothing much was surrendered.
By the time respect is given its due
it is too late.
The gates are burst, the walls are sundered
and the citadel is taken.
Such is a heart
(such is my heart)
in the hands of a quiet rebel.
